Robin Robinson, Bucks County Recorder of Deeds, will talk about the tasks under way to preserve many of the old deed books including one going back to 1684.

The responsibility of her office is to record and maintain for permanent record all documents related to real estate in addition to deeds, mortgages and subdivision plans. The office handles as many as 25 different kinds of documents including veterans’ discharges, notary public commissions, etc.

In September 2018, Bucks County had 75 historic deed books of approximately 700 handwritten books preserved for generations to come, the first step in a project aiming to save hundreds more. Many recently-discovered books, one dating back more than 300 years to 1684, tell the story of a Bucks County long gone: of colonists and their homes, of land bought and sold, of slaves traded and freed. One volume contains an order emancipating the slaves of Bucks County. Several other volumes contain numerous instances of the signature of Bucks County founder and Pennsylvania namesake, William Penn.
